Veteran's Day

IT IS THE SOLDIER

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Came across the above poem while cleaning out my files the other day. For what it is worth, I feel it still holds true even if most people don't realize it. However, that is yet another reason why we serve in the manner that we do, so that other people won't ever have to. I thought that given the current state of the country, especially with the recent elections, it would be a good time to post it.

I am going to break "the rules" so to speak and express a personal/political view this post. It is my hope this up-coming holiday season that all Americans take a moment during their celebrations to remember the military members (deployed or not) past and present, and their families and the sacrifices they make in order that we can have the nation and the freedoms that we all enjoy.

I would also like to thank all the veterans who served before us. Without the job you did we would not be here or able to the job we have. Thank you, from one generation to another.

That is a really good poem and it is so true. The other day I was with a couple of teenagers and I realized that not everyone understands that concept. The statement was made about the freedoms that we have or as they put it we don't have. And as I listened to them talk between each other they don't think about the people who are serving/have served to give them those freedoms. It is sad that the that is the mindset of that generation. I would just like to say thank you to all service personnel past, present and future for the freedoms that I have.
