So things have slowed down dramatically the last week or so since we returned from our last mission as a complete CLP. Turns out it was our CLP's last mission all together. It was a good run, things went well, our gun trucks were OK, and best of all we managed to get through the entire deployment without our CLP ever being hit. Granted we had rocks thrown at our trucks a few times, but as far as any actual attacks or IEDs we made it through untouched thanks to the Grace of God.
Our replacements were here by the time we arrived but due to time constraints our CLP didn't have to take them on a training mission like some of the others have. That being the case, the last few days we've been turning in gear, packing bags, and suffering from the effects of reality of the fact we'll be out of here soon sinking in. The mood in our barracks last night was almost like that of a party. I've even started letting myself get excited about going home...something I've been doing all I could to put off so that time didn't seem to drag on and on, and to help keep focused on our primary mission.
Even though things are going much slower for some of us lately, they've been getting faster-paced for other areas of the company. In the end, everything has averaged out as far as who had the most work to do while over here. As silly as it sounds, some people had real issue with how much work others had to do.
For me, I've spent my free time alternating between procrastinating, packing, play solitaire, watching movies, reading, and going through my computer and hard drives to find pictures and video I haven't yet posted and may actually have a use for. I thought I had one of us packing that I could use for this post, but I am at a loss to find where it is. Oh well, as Jimmy says I'm "wasting away" and enjoying the ending days of Summer Splash 2009.
I hope things are going well for everyone back in the States. From what we've been hearing somebody hasn't paid the heating bill for outside and there's been talk of...snow, by the time we get home. I sincerely hope this issue is corrected soon. If not, well, I'll just have to wear all my cold weather gear while driving around Mason City with the top down on my Jeep the first couple days.
Be safe, we'll be home soon.
