I would like to thank everyone who attended the various send-offs and continue to offer their support to the the soldiers and family members of the 1133 and 1168. I would also like to think the various media outlets who have been following our mobilization, especially KIMT (who was kind enough to provide equipment to help make this project possible) and the Mason City Globe Gazette (who I very much appreciated the plug from for this blog).
Most importantly I would like to thank the families of our soldiers. Without the support of our loved ones our mission would be much more difficult to accomplish. In some respects our job is easier than that of those we leave behind. Often our families must make large changes to their daily lives and routines to help take care of the things that the soldiers are unable to while we are gone. In my eyes, it is our family members that are the true heroes.
Today is our first day in Texas, and things have been going pretty well. The climate is quite the change from what we left in Iowa. Today we had partly sunny skies (per what Adam Frederick taught me) and we actually had temps in the lower 80's for a while. The flight was uneventful (despite the usual number of William Shatner "there's something on the wing" Twighlight Zone jokes). Our barracks are quite nice, we have real beds, wall lockers, a lot of showers, on-site laundry, and even A/C. Overall morale is still high and things are going positive. Once things get settled in and I have contact with Public Affairs I'll be posting more often...hopefully with video or at least pictures again.
Until then, keep safe.

Thank you for posting here and letting us see into your daily life. I normally hear "I see Mary Poppins" on airplanes. Or my dad's favorite "oh no!!!!.....(pause for all the passengers around us to freak out) the wheels have stopped turning" I have not heard any Shatner on an airplane.
you keep safe too.
Hi Trent-
This is Jennifer Garrard Lasater, you may remember me from elementary school.
I am glad you are doing this. I guess it seems a bit more real when you know the reporter. As for me I am glad to hear that our men and women are safe.
And for personnel reasons am glad to hear news about the middle east region. I am in Saudi Arabia with my daughter and husband teaching at an international school. I will continue to follow your blog!
Jennifer
Trent, Thanks for the comments on the family left behind! Alot of people don't understand what it's like. Especially if you're the grandparents left to raise the grandchildren like several of us are! Love to you all! Mom Christians
Just started reading this site on 10-31. Thanks for all you write. Our son is in the unit, but doesn't understand that we want to know these things. Thanks for giving us a better picture of his life away from home.
