Really not sure what to write about on here lately. Normally I'd write my usually random ramblings such as I think Mason City has some very silly people for getting upset over a mere billboard. The article online the other day about the controversy over hanging laundry out to dry raised my eyebrows as well.
I suppose I could write about how re-integrating into home life is going, but for the most part things have gone well. Still some issues out there I doubt will ever be resolved, had a major disappointment the night after we got back, made some friends down at the Cedar Rapids Vet Center. Over all though, deployment has quickly become no more than dream-like memories that have found their proper place in the attic of my mind.
Life at home has been going well, albeit a bit slow. I think the experts are wrong and a person can catch up on their missed sleep. Lord knows mine has been trying. In between naps, and thanks in large part to Rip Its and coffee, I've been slowly but steadily sorting things out in the house. Jeep needs a few repairs as well, mainly lights that need replacing...pretty much all Level I stuff as we would say a couple months ago.
The kids are doing quite well, the influence from living with their grandparents is quite evident and absolutely nothing to complain about. They even eat real food finally, which means I get to cook again! Combining their daily schedule with mine went off pretty much without a hitch, I just wish they started school at the same time every day. We've gotten out a bit, spent time playing games, and everyone seems happy to be together again.
I sold the Nikons last week. Last one will be shipped out tomorrow. I'm going to miss them, but with luck by February I should have the new Panasonic. I'm looking forward to digital video again (tapes are nice, but a pain to get ingested onto the computer), especially from a camera built like the SLR's I'm used to. Should be a fun summer video-wise. Kicking around the idea of attending a pro workshop in March to get some actual training for shooting video and improving my story telling. Should be fun if I get to go.
Other than that I'm not quite sure what to say. Drill won't be until January, which will be the next official step of the military re-integration process. Hopefully by then I can figure out how to get to the armory in Mason City. While we were gone someone seemed to think it would be a good idea to drop an overpass where our driveway used to be. I really have to wonder what the city planners were thinking all those years ago when they built the roads in this town...
Anyway, continue being safe.
